Mary L. Mattke

Mary L. Mattke, 50, of Sumner, died Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at her home in rural Sumner surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held 10:30     a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Scott Duffus officiating.  Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Sumner.  Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday December 2nd, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner and for one hour preceding the service on Saturday

Mary Lou, daughter of Melvin and Verdeen (Judisch) Ohlendorf was born August 24, 1966, at the Sumner Hospital. She was baptized September 11, 1966 by Rev. E. F. Puhlmann and confirmed April 12, 1981 by Dr. William C. Imes at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli. Mary received her education in the Sumner Schools, graduating from Sumner High School in 1984. She continued her education at NIACC in Mason City and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in general studies. On August 28, 1993, she was united in marriage with Richard Mattke at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli. To this union two children were born, Ashley and Dustin. Mary worked at Do-It Corporation in Denver, McKenna Color Labs in Cedar Falls, ConAgra in Fredericksburg, Plum Building Systems, TriMark Corporation in New Hampton, Rockwell Automation in Sumner and most recently at Rada Cutlery in Waverly. She was a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Mary enjoyed puzzles, cross-word puzzles, Sudoku, investigative television shows, and enjoyed the Christmas Specials on television.

In addition to her husband, Richard of Sumner, Mary is survived by her two children, Ashley Mattke of Lawler and Dustin Mattke of Sumner; her parents, Melvin and Verdeen Ohlendorf of Sumner; one brother, Rick (Angie) Ohlendorf of McLeansville, North Carolina; one sister, Bonnie (Mark) Goodenbour of Tripoli; mother-in-law, Ruby Mattke of Sumner; one brother-in-law, David (Colleen) Mattke of New Ulm, Minnesota; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, and father-in-law, Melvin Mattke.

O graduated from Sumner in 1982 and grew up in the green house on 4th Street, across from the water tower. My sincerest sympathies to you and your family.
